Chicago White Sox Sign Japanese Slugger Munetaka Murakami on a Substantial Two-Year Contract.
In a major move for their overhauling roster, the South Side team have signed infielder Munetaka Murakami, completing a $34 million contract bringing in the high-profile player.
Deal Structure and Incentives
The agreement includes a seven-figure signing bonus, payable within 30 days, combined with salaries of sixteen million for the 2026 season and $17M for the 2027 year.
Importantly, Murakami's compensation is subject to escalators based on award achievements in 2026:
- A seven-figure bonus for being named the MVP award.
- Half a million dollars for finishing in the top three in MVP voting.
- $250,000 for ranking between fourth and tenth.
